GalChimia, from Touro; CZ Vaccines, based in O Porriño; Syspro Automation, with centers in Nigrán and A Coruña; and the Santiago-based companies BFlow and Libera Bio were in Basel to reaffirm the biotechnology ecosystem’s interest in internationalization and the development of R&D alliances

Santiago, May 9, 2025. The Galician Life Sciences Business Technology Cluster (Bioga) and five companies from the Galician biotechnology ecosystem participated in Swiss Biotech Day 2025, held this week in Basel, Switzerland. The delegation from the Galician biotech ecosystem established contacts and explored collaboration opportunities with companies based in Switzerland, one of the world’s leading centers for the biotechnology sector and home to major pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Swiss Biotech Day 2025 is one of the leading biotechnology events in Europe. This gathering brought together more than 2,500 life sciences professionals from around the world. It offers a platform for networking, exchanging ideas and projects, and exploring advances in R&D, manufacturing, data management, artificial intelligence, and innovative financing. The Life Sciences Business Technology Cluster was present with a stand in the Global Village, representing the biotech ecosystem, alongside Asebio and the Basque Health Cluster. The Global Village is a space within Swiss Biotech Day dedicated to connecting international delegations operating in the life sciences and biotechnology sector, fostering cross-border investments, public-private partnerships, R&D collaborations, and talent exchange.

The Galician companies that participated were: GalChimia, based in Touro; CZ Vaccines, established in O Porriño; which were part of the joint stand; Syspro Automation, with centers in Nigrán and A Coruña; and BFlow and Libera Bio, both based in Santiago de Compostela. Bioga and companies from the Galician biotech sector were also present in March of this year at Bio-Europe Spring 2025, the leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical trade fair in Europe, held in Milan. Bioga was also represented at the 10th IBioIC Annual Conference, held in Glasgow, Scotland, also in March. The sector thus reaffirms its commitment to internationalization through events that connect companies from Europe’s leading innovation centers with the global life sciences community. Bioga’s president, José Manuel López Vilariño, notes that these actions reinforce Bioga’s strategy and that of the entire Galician biotechnology ecosystem “to continue focusing on internationalization throughout 2025.”

The Galician ecosystem participated in an exclusive meeting on May 5th between Swiss and Spanish companies, held at the headquarters of Vectura Fertin Pharma. There, they were able to establish strategic partnerships and open doors to developing innovation and internationalization. This event brought together more than 100 representatives from leading companies such as Novartis, Lonza, Sandoz, Biogen, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Abbott. The event was organized by ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade) and the Spanish Economic and Commercial Office in Bern to enhance the visibility and competitiveness of Spanish companies on the international stage. Participating companies had the opportunity to take part in business visits to key institutions such as the Switzerland Innovation Park in Basel, the Bio-Technopark Schlieren in Zurich, and Biopôle in Lausanne.
