Promoting Galician Biotechnology Abroad through Galicia Exports Intermediate Bodies: Fairs, Missions and International Networks:
Bioga carried out a series of actions from April 2025 to November 2025, within the framework of the Galicia Exports Intermediary Organizations 2025 program of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape), aimed at promoting the internationalization of the Galician biotechnology sector.
These actions included participation as an exhibitor at leading international trade fairs such as the 6th International FoodTech Forum (Brazil), BIO-Europe (Vienna), and Swiss Biotech Day (Basel), where the Galician ecosystem gained visibility and ties were strengthened with other European clusters and companies.
In addition, the Galicia Bio Campaign was developed, a digital strategy to position Galician biotechnology globally.
Direct missions were also carried out, such as visits to Brittany and Paris (France) with the aim of establishing strategic alliances and attracting investment, and reverse missions from Galicia, which included visits to Galician research centers and networking sessions, promoting multilateral collaboration and the international positioning of Galicia as a leading bioregion in life sciences.

By means of stakeholders’ mapping, challenges identification, regulatory analysis and delivery of tailored models, the project seeks to provide solutions for a clever use of resources. Commercialization-ready prototypes for the food and cosmetics sectors will be developed as illustrative pilots..

The cooperation will provide concrete solutions that promote environmental and economic resilience for the benefit of producers, politicians and local communities.

Objective: The ECOPEST_TECH SOLUTIONS project aims to reduce the use of biocides in pest control programs, protecting human and animal health and the environment through safer and more effective technological solutions and formulations. It is structured in three phases. Phase I defined preliminary strategies, compounds, and technologies for more sustainable management. Phase II developed an integrated control system validated in real-world environments, incorporating innovations in image analysis for rodents, improved traps, and an IoT platform for monitoring and decision-making. A new research line focused on mosquito control was also launched, using screening for molecules with biopesticide potential that are safe for humans and the environment. The current Phase III project consolidates and expands upon previous advances, implementing solutions in food industry environments and opening new lines of research with high technological value, especially for mosquito control.

The overall objective of the SIMBA project is to develop an intelligent collaborative platform based on advanced digitization tools validated in a relevant environment by early adopters. Ecopest_Tech Solutions II:

Project Type: Industrial Research

Objective: This project aims to optimize the use of biocides in pest control and proposes to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of these treatments. It has received funding for its second phase, which focuses on innovation, research, and development of new technological solutions for the use of biocides in urban pest control services, guaranteeing the protection of human and animal health and the environment. Participants include Athisa Medioambiente; Nazaríes Intelligenia; Cactus; Fundación Medina; and the Bioga Cluster.

Ibero Bio: Towards the consolidation, positioning and internationalization of the cross-border Iberian biotechnology sector
IberoBio is an ambitious project aimed at consolidating, positioning, and internationalizing the cross-border Iberian biotech sector. At IberoBio, we believe in strategic collaboration, innovation, and shared growth. Our mission is to drive the success of biotechnology companies in the Iberian Peninsula by promoting internationalization, access to funding, innovation, and the sector’s development. IberoBio is proud to have a network of strategic partners encompassing academic institutions, business organizations, and research entities. Together, we form a robust ecosystem that fosters the growth and success of biotechnology companies in the Iberian Peninsula.

Obradoiro 4.0: Data&Bio.
Analysis, diagnosis and proposals for improvement in the application of DATA systems and technologies.
This program, completely free and 100% funded in this phase through IGAPE, will allow participating entities to:
- Learn from experts about 4.0 technologies and systems that can help you make better decisions.
- Receive general training on Industry 4.0 and specific training on Microsoft Power BI.
- Knowing how to assess a potential collective (or individual) project to submit for IGAPE grants or other entities.
The systems and technologies included in this workshop will help improve processes, reduce costs, meet requirements and reference systems (for example, traceability), improve quality, reduce times, create value for the customer and make better decisions.


Youth Mentoring in the Company Project 2023 – Ministry of Social Policy and Youth – Xunta de Galicia
The Youth Mentoring in the Company Program is intended for young people between 18 and 30 years old, registered in Galicia, who want to start in the labor market. At BIOGA we have been beneficiaries of this Program, which will allow us to help companies in the Galician biotech sector hire young people who meet the different requirements in the form of paid internships.
This program of the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth of the Xunta de Galicia, co-financed by the European Union, through the European Social Fund, Youth Employment Operational Program, seeks for young people to improve their chances of joining the labor market through the completion of a paid internship in a company, of a minimum of 300 total hours and a maximum of 3 months, extended between the months of September and November 2023.

EDIH DATAlife Project: European Digital Innovation Hub
DATAlife was born with the vision of turning Galicia into a Bioregion of reference in Europe through the connection, coordination and creation of synergies between the agents of the innovation ecosystem and the productive sectors of the region. DATAlife focuses primarily on disruptive technologies in validation and demonstration phases at the industrial scale with great potential to increase industrial competitiveness, which are not widespread in the market, and therefore it is necessary to support companies (especially SMEs) to facilitate their knowledge and adoption. It also continuously maps commercially available digital solutions and suppliers to complement DATAlife’s technological offer.
Objectives
- Increase the competitiveness of enterprises, and especially SMEs, through the adoption of AI and Big Data technologies, promoting the creation of federated data spaces and their collaborative exploitation.
- Sharing best practices with other regions through its experts committee, with ambassadors at national and international level, and with strategic relations with the participation in DIHs collaboration networks.
- Be a one-stop shop for services, providing companies with access to advanced digital solutions through modern infrastructures for experimentation and technology validation.

Capitalize CTBio: Towards the consolidation and expansion of the Cross-Border Biotechnological Cluster
The general objective of the project is to capitalize on the results of the cooperation that have been more successful during the CTBio project (0082_CLUSTERBIOTRANSFRONTERIZO_1_E) through the development of new actions aimed at responding to the needs of the biotech business fabric of the Euroregion in a post-pandemic context where biotechnology has emerged as a vitally important strategic sector.
Actividades
- La realización de asesoramiento a proyectos y pymes biotech mediante nuevas metodología ágiles adaptadas al nuevo contexto actual en diversas áreas clave (innovación disruptiva, marketing digital, acceso a mercados internacionales, financiación de startups y proyectos de I+D+I, etc.), tomará como base manuales de referencia tales como el Manual de Incubación y aceleración biotech.
- La colaboración intersectorial y tecnológica para el diseño de nuevos modelos de negocio, tomando como referencia el Plan de fomento de la Hibridación y de Análisis de la Cadena de Valor, especialmente considerando la importancia de reforzar la cooperación entre el sector biotech, el sector tecnológico y otros sectores tradicionales para el surgimiento de potenciales oportunidades de colaboración que deriven en la creación de nuevas iniciativas empresariales.
- El impulso al Clúster CTBio para ampliar su masa crítica y multiplicar su posicionamiento del sector biotech de la Eurorregión de cara a la futura creación del Polo Ibérico de Biotecnología tomará como referencia el Plan Director del Clúster elaborado en el proyecto y el Portal web de resultados de investigación biotecnológica en la Eurorregión Galicia – Norte de Portugal.
Resultados
Los resultados del proyecto de capitalización irán en consonancia con los objetivos expuestos en el punto anterior, contribuyendo a reforzar la competitividad del sector biotech de la Eurorregión y el posicionamiento del Clúster CTBio, así como a sentar las bases hacia su extensión futura.
Estos serán los principales resultados del proyecto:
- El desarrollo de un Manual de metodologías ágiles para la incubación y aceleración biotech, adaptado al contexto postpandemia, como base para el desarrollo de actuaciones de asesoramiento a proyectos/pymes biotech en una serie de aspectos clave para su creación, crecimiento, consolidación y expansión (innovación disruptiva, marketing digital, acceso a mercados internacionales, financiación de startups y proyectos de I+D+I, etc.)
- 46 proyectos empresariales y pymes biotech formadas / asesoradas mediante nuevas metodologías ágiles adaptadas al contexto actual postpandemia, acorde las metodologías ágiles descritas anteriormente.
- 3 Talleres de hibridación sectorial para el diseño y desarrollo de nuevos modelos de negocio, con la participación de 22 proyectos/pymes en donde se establecerán sinergias entre los sectores biotech, el tecnológico y sectores estratégicos de la Eurorregión.
- 22 proyectos empresariales/pymes biotech asesoradas a través de la hibridación entre los sectores biotech, el tecnológico y sectores estratégicos de la Eurorregión.
- Un mayor posicionamiento del Clúster CTBio como estructura de referencia de cara a su expansión futura mediante la asociación de nuevos actores clave, sentando las bases para el desarrollo futuro del Polo Ibérico Transfronterizo de Biotecnología, a través de las siguientes actuaciones:
- La elaboración de 1 Plan de Capitalización del Clúster CTBio como documento estratégico para la consolidación del Clúster y su posicionamiento como estructura de referencia en el área de la incubación/aceleración de proyectos empresariales biotech, de cara a su ampliación geográfica y posicionamiento internacional en el nuevo periodo de programación 2021-2027 (con vistas al futuro desarrollo del Polo Ibérico Transfronterizo de Biotecnología).
- La celebración de 2 Eventos de Capitalización (uno en cada territorio de la Eurorregión) para incrementar el posicionamiento del Clúster y ensanchar el número de agentes involucrados. Estos eventos se complementarán con la promoción del CTBio entre los eventos, actividades y comunidad propia de los socios del proyecto.
- Realización de contactos con agentes biotech de referencia (asociaciones, clúster, administraciones, universidades, etc.) de fuera de la Eurorregión (España y Portugal) de cara a forjar el desarrollo del Polo Ibérico Transfronterizo de Biotecnología.
- El desarrollo de una Plataforma de referencia biotech, integrando nuevos actores biotech a los ya existentes en el Portal web de resultados de investigación biotecnológica en la Eurorregión Galicia – Norte de Portugal, con la presencia de más de 60 nuevos agentes en el sector.

The object of these grants is the granting of 100 scholarships for the realization of training practices linked to improvement programs in Galician SMEs, according to the Training Plan of Annex III of these bases, with the purpose of training university graduates in various areas related to the professionalization and strategic development of the company.
The graduates will participate in a training itinerary specifically designed for participation in the program, and will carry out training under the supervision of collaborating agents of Igape in projects to improve small and medium-sized companies, support for entrepreneurs or collaborative projects of associations or business clusters, during which they will receive training and tutoring directly from the collaborating agent.


Interreg POCTEP CTB-Cross-border Biotechnology Cluster. Consolidation, growth and competitiveness of the cross-border biotechnology sector (2017-2019)
The general objective of the project is to promote cooperation, integration and competitiveness of the biotechnology sector in the Galicia-North of Portugal area. to turn the Euroregion into a pole of territorial excellence in biotechnology. As specific objectives, the aim will be to create a Cross-Border Biotechnology Cluster Galicia Norte de Portugal that will operate as an agent for the promotion of sectoral competitiveness, providing advanced business development services and integration in the value chain. It will also seek to contribute to the strengthening of the skills of the human capital of the Galician-Portuguese biotechnology sector and to promote its international projection and its access to foreign markets.

Resultados
Uno de los resultados del proyecto será la creación del Cluster Transfronterizo de Biotecnología Galicia Norte de Portugal como estructura permanente, en la que estén integradas las entidades socias, nuevas adhesiones, incluyendo pymes.
Contará con un hub-biotech en Porto de Moelle, junto a la Zona Franca de comercio internacional de Vigo y otro en Braga, por el que pasarán 20 startups. Finalmente se llegará a 12 operaciones de venta cerradas en mercados exteriores por empresas beneficiarias del proyecto y habrá un mínimo de 80 emprendedores y empresas que son asesoradas y acompañadas en su internacionalización, tras ser formadas en habilidades empresariales, en la cadena de valor y en búsqueda de financiación previamente a su salto de escala.

Interreg POCTEP Code More-Creation of a Cross-Border Ecosystem of Innovation in Health (2015-2019)
The General Objective of CÓDIGOMÁIS consists in the creation of a Cross-Border Ecosystem of Innovation in the field of health in the Galicia-Northern Portugal Cooperation Area, which promotes cooperation according to the quadruple helix model and the market-oriented valorization of research results.
Three Specific Objectives are pursued:
- Favor the flow of technological solutions, bidding opportunities, innovation projects between administration-R+D+i centers-companies-end users.
- Promote an Ecosystem Promoting R&D Oriented to the Efficient Services Market.
- Promote an Internationally Connected Ecosystem.

Los principales resultados del proyecto serán:
- Integración de los Beneficiarios en un Ecosistema Transfronterizo de Innovación estable, abierto a todos los actores clave públicos y privados del sector de la salud.
- Itinerario común de valorización de proyectos de investigación orientados al mercado en el sector biosanitario e su aplicación a 12 proyectos con potencial para convertirse en spin-offs de base tecnológica.
- Introducción en el Área de Cooperación de modelos de innovación abierta de los servicios socio-sanitario, basados en innovación abierta y técnicas de co-diseño y co-creación.
Puesta en marcha de un polo de competitividad transfronterizo en el sector de la salud, con una fuerte orientación internacional. Apoyo financiero de la Unión Europea y del FEDER-Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional.

The objective of these bases is the call for 100 places for the training of young professionals in the field of business internationalization:
a) Theoretical training of export manager. This unpaid training follows a methodology focused on supporting SMEs in their internationalization processes. Maximum: 40 places.
b) Practical training abroad and/or in Galicia (in offices of the Pexga network, Igape antennas abroad, commercial offices of Spain abroad, Spanish chambers of commerce abroad, multilateral organizations, Igape, Galician intermediate organizations, research centers, companies and/or other organizations in Galicia or abroad). To carry out market research, study of companies and their planning for internationalization and, investigation of the possibilities of international cooperation between Galician and foreign companies. Maximum 60 places

IG208- International. Aid to intermediate bodies for the implementation of actions and strategies for the promotion and internationalization of Galician companies (2014)
With the objective of encouraging promotion abroad jointly by favoring business cooperation and the exploitation of synergies between several companies, Igape will be able to grant grants for lost funds to projects promoted and developed by intermediate bodies to facilitate the internationalization of the companies they represent.


IG191- Training grants for the implementation of Galician SMEs improvement projects (2012)
The purpose of these grants is to award the number of scholarships indicated in the call resolution for training practices linked to improvement programs in Galician SMEs with the purpose of training university graduates in various areas related to the professionalization and strategic development of the company.
Graduates will first join a training itinerary specifically designed for participation in the program, and then they will carry out training under the supervision of Igape collaborating agents in improvement projects to be implemented in small and medium-sized companies, a period in which they will receive training and tutoring directly from the collaborating agent.
