Santiago de Compostela, April 9, 2025 – The Xunta de Galicia welcomed the new promotion of the Industrial Doctorates program, a strategic initiative that seeks to strengthen collaboration between the academic field and the Galician productive fabric. In this fourth edition (2024-2028), a total of 61 researchers will develop their doctoral thesis in companies and technological centers in the community, consolidating an innovation model based on knowledge transfer.

The program, which has mobilized nearly 8 million euros, has had the participation of 45 companies and 7 R&D&I centers since its inception. This new call has included 15 new doctoral students: 12 hired directly by companies and 3 by technology centers. The main research areas include sciences, engineering and architecture, and health.

It is worth noting that a significant part of these doctorates is developed in the biotechnology sector, with the prominent participation of BIOGA partner companies such as Linknovate Science, Flowreserve Labs, Biopranaworld, NANOGAP, Nasasbiotech, among others. This involvement reflects the growing weight of biotechnology in the Galician R&D&I system and its role as a driver of business innovation.

The university origin of the research students is mainly distributed between the three Galician universities: 59% come from the University of Santiago de Compostela, 24.6% from the University of Vigo and 16.4% from the University of A Coruña. In addition to covering recruitment costs, the program finances project-related expenses in the participating entities and offers support for three-month stays in international centers.

At BIOGA, we celebrate the commitment of the Xunta de Galicia to this program, which not only promotes the development of research talent in real business environments, but also reinforces the competitiveness and international projection of the Galician biotechnology ecosystem.
