Santiago de Compostela. October 22th 2025. The Galician Life Sciences Business Technology Cluster (Bioga), representing the Galician biotechnology ecosystem, is exploring opportunities in France to strengthen cooperation in medical, marine, and agricultural biotechnology. A Bioga-led delegation will visit the Brittany and \u00cele-de-France regions from October 20-23, 2025. Specifically, they will travel to the cities of Rennes and Paris, strategic innovation hubs in France, one of Europe\u2019s leading countries in the biotechnology industry.<\/p>\n
The Life Sciences Business Technology Cluster has maintained a close relationship with Biotech Sant\u00e9 Bretagne, Brittany\u2019s biotechnology and health cluster, since 2022. And since 2024, it has also established collaborative links with stakeholders in the Paris-Saclay ecosystem, a cutting-edge innovation and knowledge ecosystem that includes research institutes, two universities, and research centers of private companies.<\/p>\n
The Galician companies participating in the trade mission are Hijos de Rivera, a beverage production and marketing company based in A Coru\u00f1a; GalChimia, a leading European chemical synthesis company based in Touro (A Coru\u00f1a); Chemo Sapiens, Europe\u2019s first virtual platform focused on supplying components to laboratories and universities in the chemical and biotechnology sectors, based in Santiago; and Bah\u00eda Software, based in Ames (A Coru\u00f1a) and specializing in consulting and technological development.<\/p>\n
Why France? Bioga\u2019s president, Jos\u00e9 Manuel L\u00f3pez Vilari\u00f1o, explains that the cluster works to bring Galicia\u2019s biotech ecosystem \u201ccloser to the world\u2019s leading innovation centers.\u201d This mission aligns with that objective. \u201cFrance is at the forefront, and we want to strengthen our cooperation and explore options for our sector to continue advancing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u00cele-de-France region, with Paris as its strategic epicenter, is one of Europe\u2019s leading economic and scientific regions in the life sciences and health. It brings together 45 percent of France\u2019s healthcare innovation ecosystem and is home to the largest hospital network in Europe. Numerous hubs and clusters, such as Genople and the Paris-Saclay Innovation Playground, are based here. The latter concentrates 40 percent of the public and private research in the Paris region and 15 percent of France\u2019s high-tech R&D.<\/p>\n
Brittany\u2019s biotechnology ecosystem focuses on medical, marine, and agri-food biotechnology. This region combines healthcare innovation with sustainability. Key players include the Biotech Sant\u00e9 Bretagne cluster, Atlanpole, and Valorial, as well as startups and research centers. Brittany is France\u2019s leading agricultural and agri-food region and a leader in marine biotechnology. It is home to over 300 healthcare companies and another 300 biotechnology firms, generating more than 9,000 jobs in the healthcare sector.<\/p>\n
