This initiative, which will expand the scope of the recently completed Strategy for Consolidation of Biotechnology 2021-2025, seeks to consolidate Galicia as a bioregion of reference at an international level. This is in compliance with the Galician Research and Innovation Plan 2025-2027, which establishes biotechnology as a high-impact initiative and one of the main elements that identify and give greater competitiveness to Galician R&amp;D&amp;I.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ministry of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training is already working hard on the development of this roadmap for the next five years with the aim of continuing to promote the Galician biotechnology sector. For its development, it will be prepared in collaboration with BIOGA (Life Sciences Business Technology Cluster), an entity with which the Galician Government has just established an agreement in this regard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After concluding the Consolidation Strategy in December 2025, of which the final balance sheet is being prepared to evaluate the objectives achieved, the regional government wants to take this commitment one step further. To this end, through the Galician Innovation Agency of the Xunta, the future vision of the sector will be defined to contribute to a productive fabric with high added value, capable of generating qualified employment, attracting and retaining talent and attracting investment and competitive financing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Survey open in the coming days<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The development of the strategy will be a participatory process that involves all members of the Galician biotechnology ecosystem, but also national and international agents who contribute to detecting needs and contributions that have a positive impact in this area in the Community. To this end, a public survey aimed at professionals will be opened in the coming days with questions related to the latest trends in biotechnology, innovation and entrepreneurship, talent, training or financing instruments, among others. The objective is to gather a global vision of the main priorities, challenges and expectations of biotechnology agents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, meetings and working groups will be held with public and private representatives to share their vision and thus contribute to prioritizing the strategy&#8217;s lines of action, identifying real needs and opportunities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The forecast is to approve the Biotechnology Excellence Strategy before the summer. To this end, the work schedule is as follows: in January, data on the current situation will be monitored to obtain a final balance of the Consolidation Strategy applied between 2021 and 2025, while an analysis of trends, identification of capacities and barriers in the sector will be carried out until March. During the months of April and May, the document will be defined and drafted to be presented, finally, before the summer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The interim balance 21-23<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The development of this new strategy is based on the good results achieved so far. While waiting to know the final results of the strategy that has just been completed, the interim balance (over the period 21-23) shows a positive evolution of the sector. Specifically, Galicia has 66 companies whose main activity is biotechnology, more than 160 entities develop products or services based on this technology and the companies have increased their impact on the regional economy to 0.37% of GDP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Investment in R&amp;D in biotechnology has increased by more than 20% compared to 2020 and now constitutes 17% of total R&amp;D spending in Galicia, which confirms the markedly innovative nature of this sector.
